Jiang Zemin
Jiang Zemin (17 August 1926 – 30 November 2022) was born into a prosperous household in the wealthy town of Yangzhou, Jiangsu, he was adopted by a Communist revolutionary martyr, Jiang Shangqing. He studied electrical engineering at Shanghai's Jiatong University and joined the CCP in 1946. In 1955 he was sent to train at the Stalin Automobile Works outside Moscow and later held a series of posts in SOEs in Changchun, Shanghai and Wuhan. He became vice minister of the electronics industry, then Mayor of Shanghai and later that city's Party secretary. In June 1989, he was chosen as Deng's successor to replace Zhao Ziyang and is now President of China, General Secretary of the CCP and Chairman of the Central Military Commission. He is noted for his musical gifts and knowledge of several languages including English, Russian and Romanian. He is married to Wang Yeping and has two sons. He led the Party for ten years 1989-2002 and remained Chairman of the Central Military Commission until 2004.
